Loose Articles+ KICK LIKE A GIRL TOUR + VELMA + MAGGIE WITCH
Independent Venue Week 2023
We’re hyped to be part of Mancuinian punk outfit Loose Articles‘ Kick Like A Girl tour in February, when they bring a special show to our stage as part of Independent Venue Week. Specialising in discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of boozy nights out, and radical politics, the punk quartet’s music speaks to all those determined to get through the age of austerity with tongue in cheek, pint in hand, and two feet firmly on the dancefloor.
The group describe their second EP Chaos (Alcopop Records) as “a satirical examination of the hazards of modern life—keyboard warriors, the death of the independent pub, sexist footy fans, and the hopelessness that the woman in the street often feels in the face of impending doom.” Feminine and threatening, Loose Articles are the Manchester punk heroes you need in your life.

Velma, forming across Manchester and Liverpool, have quickly established an arsenal of ardent, biting and unrestrained tracks over the last year. The alt grunge 3 piece of Harley, Hayley and Bush, share intimate and inspired moments of clarity within their writing, highlighted between brazen and emphatic guitar and distinct grooves – the perfect setting for tongue in cheek, catchy northern poetry found in their lyrics.
The sounds Maggie Witch bring to the stage are heavily infused with what they’d like to call Las Vegas grit, inspired heavily by the 80s punk & 90s grunge scenes, yet not quite that. With these influences and the added new sound of modernity, there is bound to be a head banging fuelled state of nostalgia amongst those who listen.
