JIM
On 30th October we welcome JIM to Future Yard, the alter ego of Jim Baron, founding member of housey disco giants Crazy P. JIM is Jim’s previously unknown acoustic, Balearic folk inspired, singer songwriter side, channelling the sound of early 70’s Laurel Canyon that took a detour through Nottingham. A kaleidoscope of harmony vocals – as Crosby, Stills and Nash might have sounded with a funky back beat. Delicate acoustic fingerpicking, warmed by a swell of brass before a drama of electric unfolds. Guitar band music, delivered with the sensibilities of someone who knows how to make you dance. Sun-kissed blue-eyed soul, reminiscent of Ned Doheny, but emanating from a beach far from California. JIM is coming to town.
Tickets on sale now.
Born from a time of solitude during lockdown during which Jim honed his songwriting skills, the stripped back sound takes inspiration from a number of different reference points; from Crosby Stills & Nash, Ned Doheny & Gerry Rafferty – even early Beta Band and Zero 7. This new string to Jim’s musical bow was first heard on 2021’s ‘Falling That You Know‘ EP released on Ibiza’s finest NuNorthern Soul Records. The EP contained his brilliant acoustic reinterpretation of Phoenix by The Cult – the track even earning the seal of approval from writers Ian Astbury & Billy Duffy.
The EP garnered much love & support from DJs like Gilles Peterson, Luke Una, Cosmo Murphy, Bill Brewster and Phil Mison and radio support from 6 Music, Worldwide FM, NTS Radio. & BBC Radio London, Wales, & Ulster.
JIMs debut LP, ‘Love Makes Magic‘, was released earlier this year via Vicious Charm.

"Baron’s well-honed sense of rhythm and flow proves palpable within Love Makes Magic’s intoxicating aesthetic, which is best epitomised by the title track’s fusion of synth-disco shimmer and dreamy, harmony-rich Laurel Canyon beatitude". - Uncut
