Cousin Kula | Future Yard

We’re delighted to welcome Bristol-based psychedelic soul outfit Cousin Kula to Future Yard, for an autumn headline show. Their syrupy smooth goodness has drawn comparisons with Connan Mockasin and BadBadNotGood. Fresh off their UK tour with Australia’s premier psych-jazz outfit Mildlife, the quintet are heading back out on the road on a short run of special headline shows for Autumn 2022. Support on the night comes from Lazygirl and Slye.
Tickets on sale now.

Signed to Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section Intl. in the middle of 2021 for the release of their debut album Double Dinners, Cousin Kula have picked up many a fan among tastemakers and musicians alike for their blistering performances and intricate, soulful blend of psych and jazz. BadBadNotGood even asked them to record a live adaptation of their own single, which is well worth a scout on YouTube.

Living together, nestled in the sun-drenched hills on the outskirts of Bristol, Cousin Kula have created their own musical universe of otherworldly pop serenity with vastly distinct, but complementary elements: “the possibilities of jazz, the emphatic energy of club culture, and the sonic tapestries of psychedelia” CLASH remark “to name but a few.”

Masters of their craft, but also of restraint, this prodigal band is known to fans for their superior live show. Having performed live in various bands pretty much every month for the past 10 years and since they were in their early teens, not being able to hit the stage during lockdown took its toll on these musicians. Now, Cousin Kula flutter into the collective consciousness with a timeless slice of psychedelic soul on their new material.

“Fizzing with twisted guitar melodies and a dreamy psychedelic groove, Brain Abroad proves that Bristolian six-piece Cousin Kula are masters of their craft.” - The Line Of Best Fit

Lazygirl is the musical project of 21-year-old Beth Harris. A songwriter from a young age, Beth began producing her own music at 17 with the help of a group of female and non-binary artists and producers including Clairo and Sophie Meiers. Now, with over 800,000 Spotify streams, Beth has established herself as a dreamy bedroom artist, with smooth melodies, lo-fi production and quirky drum samples—solidified by becoming one of LIMF Academy’s ‘Most Ready’ artists for 2022.

This is bedroom pop as its finest... Harris' vocals are soft, yet so effortlessly break through the atmospheric walls of sound she has so skilfully created. - Geeking about music

Slye is dedicated to the idea of moving both the body and mind. Combining the infectious grooves of late 70s – early 80s funk music such as Prince, Sly Stone and Funkadelic, with modern indie and contemporary R&B / rock.
