We are looking to add to our team of LIVE EVENT TECHNICIANS to deliver our wide range of live music events at our venue on Argyle Street, Birkenhead.

This is a unique opportunity to join the team at one of the UK’s most exciting new music venues. Since fully opening in the summer of 2021, we have played host to artists such as Gruff Rhys, OMD, Black Country, New Road, Nubiyan Twist, Shame, Melt Yourself Down, Bodega and many more, with a programme encompassing the best in contemporary alternative, jazz, electronic and experimental music.

THE ROLE

Your primary discipline will be as a sound engineer, but you will also have oversight of all technical aspects of the shows you work, including live lighting and AV. You may not be a lighting specialist – but you’ll have an appetite to develop and learn – drawing on Future Yard’s existing production team and ongoing training to support you.

Future Yard is committed to providing a range of pathways for local young people to develop the skills needed to embark on careers within the live music industry. We view all of our events as learning opportunities and you will regularly have trainees shadowing and assisting you on live events. You will be passionate about passing on your skills to the next generation and embrace the culture of exchange and skill sharing on which Future Yard is built.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You will have experience as a live sound engineer and a robust knowledge and experience of the workings of a grassroots live music venue. You will be passionate about developing your skills and will take full advantage of the opportunities Future Yard will present to do this.

You will be at the heart of a small, passionate team working in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills, who can manage and prioritise their workload independently, while communicating clearly and effectively with their team, colleagues, visiting artists, crew and promoters.

Future Yard is a non-profit, Community Interest Company. We have been established to utilise the power of music to bring about meaningful change in Birkenhead, running a range of training, artist development and community programmes alongside our live events. We are keen to work with people who share our vision of a dynamic community music venue and are driven to deliver excellence, every time we open our doors.

As a member of the Future Yard family you will benefit from a range of bonuses, including: free entry to all Future Yard shows, weekly staff yoga and mindfulness, training and social events, our cycle to work scheme, paid training, ongoing development opportunities and a brilliant range of staff discounts.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about technical production and has:

  • Experience as a live sound engineer
  • A robust knowledge and experience of the workings of a grassroots live music venue
  • Awareness of live lighting within a live music venue and a strong desire to expand your skills in this area
  • An appetite to share your knowledge with young people, as part of Future Yard’s training programmes
  • Great team working skills, flexibility and an appetite to continually develop
  • Excellent communication skills
  • You will be a well organised, disciplined self-starter
  • A driving licence and access to a car would be desirable, though not essential

If your application is successful, you will be invited for a first stage interview. Following this, successful applicants will be invited to a second stage interview, at which you will engineer a live show at Future Yard.
First stage interviews will take place between 30th May – 2nd June

The post holder will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Applications must be made via the application form linked below, with an opportunity to upload a CV.
