kuduro artist

- PONGO
Born in Angola, based in Lisbon, 24-year-old PONGO explodes onto the European scene, bringing a melodic, artistic, soulful approach to the classic kuduro sound.
The Angolan-Portuguese artist’s new EP, Uwa (available now via Caroline International) is the follow-up to her BBC Radio 6 Music-supported debut EP Baia – which has since been streamed over 6 million times. PONGO performed at Dingwalls at the start of March as part of this year’s 6Music Festival, and will be back in the UK for a string of headline shows in the autumn. The Uwa EP features singles Quem Manda No Mic – supported by 1Xtra and playlisted at 6Music – and recent release Canto.
Best known for her work with Buraka Som Sistema including the monster international hit Kalemba (Wegue Wegue), she draws on her experience of growing up in Luanda, Angola, in the 90s to bring personal, powerful, emotional songs that are touching hearts and rocking dancefloors across the world.

“an affirmation of dancing’s power over strife” – Pitchfork
